The owners of End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) are to deliver them to licenced scrapping centres that belong to the VALORCAR Network. The respective registration of ownership and licence plate number are then cancelled.

Thus, whenever delivering and ELV, owners are to:

• Deliver the original Vehicle Logbook Document or the Vehicle Registration Document (or the Car Licence Certificate);
• Provide your Citizen’s Card, Identity Card and Tax Card;
• Request the cancellation of the licence plate through the filling out the model 9 form of the IMT – the Institute of Mobility and Transports (which is available at the centre – this form may only be signed by the actual vehicle owner).

Subsequently, the vehicle scrap centre identifies the ELV and attributes the respective document. When everything is in order, then the Certificate of Destruction may be issued (in accordance with that stipulated in Article 85 of Decree Law no. 152-D/2017 of 11 December) - SNECD – the National System for Destruction Certificates and immediately delivering the original to the vehicle owner (who then gains proof of delivering the vehicle to a licenced company and who then has no further responsibility). The destruction certificate data are dealt with by the IMT automatically and five days following its issuing, there is the automatic cancellation of the registration and communication to the taxation authority for the annulment of the road duty charge and the Vehicle Registry Office to terminate the registration of ownership.
